ChatGPT Explained by a Copywriter

What the @#$% is ChatGPT?

It’s a Large Language Model or LLM, meaning it’s read a large amount of the human language i.e. billions of pages scraped from the web. It took several years (and millions of Microsoft’s dollars) for OpenAI to “train” ChatGPT on the vast amount of digital data available today.

It’s also a breakthrough in creating copy, excellent for customization, research, brainstorming, drafting, SEO, product descriptions, and more.

And the reason many people are anxious about their jobs in the coming decade. I myself tossed and turned for several nights until I decided to grab the bull by the horns. As Sun Tzu professes in The Art of War, “Know yourself, know your enemy.” I started enrolling in courses to learn more and eventually became certified by MIT. The more I learned, the less I feared the technology and embraced it. One of the first things I wanted to do was be able to answer the following question in any meeting where ChatGPT came up.

What does GPT stand for?

Generative - simply means it can generate text or images.

Pretrained - it’s read pretty much the entire internet or 175 billion parameters That’s all of Wikipedia, newspapers, books, all the comments on Reddit, and so much more.

Transformer -this allows it to have multiple layers of computing, much like the human brain that takes in many details all at once to make a decision. We don’t even think about it. Previously computers had to solve tasks sequentially, such as a calculator.

All of which allows it to write entire paragraphs in seconds. Which is a wonderful thing and I encourage you to check it out.
